DEPRESSION & ANXIETY:
Depression or anxiety symptoms can be debilitating. It has been said that depression and anxiety are two sides of the same coin. Depression is what we like to call “the deep, dark abyss”. It feels huge and scary, almost like a black hole that we fall into and get lost. It may feel completely hopeless to try and climb out of the “deep, dark abyss”. Anxiety, on the other hand, is what we see as the overwhelming, never ending mountain that must be climbed. We stand at the bottom of mount anxiety and look straight up at what looks to be impossible and get overwhelmed by the idea of even starting up that road. Again, this feels very hopeless and scary.
Anyone can struggle with depression, anxiety, or even both. The symptoms are very different, but the therapy techniques used in counseling are very similar. The best methodology for treating anxiety and depression is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is a way of helping you replace distorted or harmful thinking with more realistic and positive thinking. It is action-oriented in that there are steps you take outside of therapy to put the methods into practice. The belief in CBT is that our thinking drives our actions. Therefore we must learn to modify our thinking in order to modify our behavior. Another great tool used in treating depression and anxiety symptoms is called EMDR therapy. We offer both CBT and EMDR.

Complex grief occurs in situations that we have a hard time accepting, such as losing someone unexpectedly. Grief and loss isn't just about death. We grieve all kinds of losses such as jobs, health, hopes and dreams, marriages, homes and property in natural disaster, or moving.

Self esteem and confidence are difficult for some of us, especially if we never learned what healthy self esteem looks like. It's hard for us to understand that our worth is inherent, meaning we are born with it. It's not something that you earn. It just exists within you because you are valuable just the way you are. If you are struggling with this idea, it's time to feel better about yourself and be OK in your own skin.
